It was incredibly difficult to try and talk myself into leaving the hotel at rackeve in the morning, I loved the pool and hot tub sauna steam room and shower there, the breakfast was awesome also they had a ratatouille style dish with a great selection of meats and had rice milk out I had a good feed, it was raining outside, it was cheap for me to spend another night there so easy to talk myself into another night or even better just call it a day here and text BA where i was!
I made the effort and eventually got going 10 minuets into the cycling the rain stopped and i was on this cycle path/single lane road beside a beautiful river it was lined for miles upon miles with these holiday homes each with its own little fishing pier and each home entirely different, they also grew different things in and around there homes and piers, its hard to describe just how beautiful this was with all the biodiversity quirky houses old houses beautiful chalet style homes down to ver near fancy caravan it was an excellent cycle, i even looked at one holiday home that was for sale and thought I wonder how much?
this lovely road went on for all of the morning and then i follow a main road for a bit to the town of solt, consulted my digital guide book the accommodation choices were poor in solt for better accommodation choices, follow the good cycle path over the Danube to Dunaflodvari where better accommodation options are, the bridge over the Danube was fantastic a whole double cycle lane bridge for cyclists! although i`m sure it was probably built for carts originally, you still see a lot of the gypsies on horse with a trailer its not the romantic horse and cart much more industrial,
once in town accommodation choices were virtually non existent, i met an Austrian cyclist who had booked into rosemary's a cheap sort of lodge house/hostel sort of place with share bathrooms , I had a look!! bloody hell the place was a museum there was stuff everywhere(most of it for sale) its hard to start and list some of the stuff but the garden/entrance was in three parts the entrance though big thick wooden doors with a buzzer sensor led to a cobbled area surround with stuff like old bath tub naked manikins a pump, loads of ceramics a wee dog in a dog house which gave a slight bark as the owner greeted me
she couldn't speak English and smiled and laughed and talked a lot, non of which i understood except booking dot com, the gist of which was i had to make my booking on line that way she had no paperwork and i just paid her cash on leaving which is what i done in the end it was about twenty pounds in florenz
I asked her if there was a room that had a bathroom there wasn't, i guess she thought i had asked for a single room because i got the only single room, which when she showed me i thought spook city! there was a manikin in my room with top hat and tails on his polished boots in shoe stays and his travel bag laid out, an ancient mirror with the silver backing missing in places book shelf with porcelain on one shelf books on the other, its impossible to describe how much ancient stuff was kicking about. but it was right out of a TV period drama of murder and mystery from the 18th century!
the second part of the garden had more ceramic art work ( i think she made them) loads of tubs of different herbs big bundles of dried herbs i think? i was starting to wonder if she was maybe making secret potions! as my room was right next to the medieval cellar, which she seemed very proud about there was a grave stone also against the back wall but i dont think it was a grave! it could have been as we were basically in the back garden of the ancient castle and the walls were part of the previous fortifications
the third part of the garden had a sort of hot tub which i am sure hadn't been used in years the water was manky and there was a Russian foot soldiers tent in the corner with a skull next to it I have no idea if that was real, By this time i was commited she had made me a bubbly drink with soda water anjd a syrup of sokme kind i guessed she made the soda fountain was of the type that went out of fasion in the 80s in the uk it tasted fine though and i got unpacked and had a shower
You could not lose my room key it was huge as i locked the door and headed out for some dinner, first i had a walk around the castle it was just around the corner anyway, then walked all the way down to the shore hwere there was too modern style fish restaurants i went to the furthest away one first and had some noodle soup and a couple of beers there, then thought i would have a main and a couple of beers in the bigger one, I ended up having a starter that wasn't a soup it was seasoned catfish pieces on a salad bed delicious, then i had a kettle of mixed soup(catfish and carp) for a main the kettle idea was fun the bigger the table the bigger the kettle, a family were at the table opposite and they had a big kettle in the middle with side bowls of noodles and bread baskets and you labelled in from those kettles to your plate, the menu also had the best allergen signage i have seen in any restaurant anywhere making life easy for this eccentric. You couldn’t script it but the streets here are dark and every second house has a guard dog barking at a gate the clouds were thick it was raining and there was flash lightning a scene from scooby doo and I was headed to the spooky room next to the medieval cellar! With the worlds biggest room key attached to a wooden cross I opened my door and went to bed ! There was a candle should I light it? Or maybe just sleep with the light on ? ! Goodnight 😳
