Buda or pest?
The previously separate towns of Buda, and Pest were in 1873 officially unified and given the new name Budapest. Before this, the towns together had sometimes been referred to colloquially as "Pest-Buda ! but essentially each bank of the river seems to be different from the other with the pest part having the better nightlife and the buda part having the castle and less nightlife, this was my second visit to the city the previous time me and cammy were over in buda and didn't think much of our night out! this time i was a pest (pun intended) Grace already had her accommodation booked and was having her first night in pest her second and third in buda,
When i woke on my boat in the morning I gave some thought as to what to do, its a huge place i could spend some time here if i stay another night should i change areas like grace? i was happy with the area, i had a long way ton go should i get moving? i would benefit from a day not cycling and was missing my running! i decide i would stay another night on hotel ship fortuna., I would catch up on my social media and sort out my equipment then go for a run and do some sightseeing
I had an extra long stretch before i set of on my run as I had been hunched over the handle bars too long without a decent stretch, I ran past the parliament building and the shoes memorial then over the chain bridge to the castle side along the shore and back over the yellow bridge i should have went around the island from there also but opted to do a few extra blocks once over the other side, it was a good run, i took my selfie pole and took plenty pics what an awesome city
My cycling guide book is in two parts and Budapest was the end of the first book! 1269km of the Danube now behind me from its source in southern Germany`s black forest through Austria Slovakia and now Hungary, I have carried this book in my side pocket referencing it for not only directions but information on what i am looking at and where to head next, the problem is i now had no volume two! i had thought i had bought it when at home and had it delivered to mums house but i hadn't and now having arrived in Budapest, I so wanted to find the next volume i searched the streets using my phone to find book shops and cycle shops, i jumped on and of the trams asking in book and cycle shops but it was a failed mission i went for a beer,
with no solid plan in mind i just continued my sightseeing and even had a ride on the underground i had no street map so had no idea where the station would bring me out, it took me out near the chain bridge, I got a text from grace she was going to a ju jitsu class but decided against it as it was too far away from her hotel so decided against it and was now bored, I told her i would meet her half way across the chain bridge, which we did then i found my ideal bar the hedon brewing company, I loved the way this worked , you got a credit card and gave it a nickname I called mine kenny, you then went to their good selection of craft ale taps, I found an IPA that was under 5% proof (most of the beers were 6-7%) you placed your card into a reader at your tap and as I poured my beer the money i was spending whirled round just like petrol at a petrol pump self service you paid for the liquid! excellent idea i am normally against self service as its losing jobs but i liked this one. they had a similar set up with the food also in there as there was a fridge full of beef i never investigated that, this was not graces scene though, a non drinker who likes to be served,
we moved on and had some soup at a gastropub which was pleasant enough, it was getting late by then grace invited me to join her the next day at the swimming spa thermal pools she was going to do and then she was meeting a couple from Vancouver she had met cycling, i walked her down to the waterfront and said goodbye while she went back to buda and i went to a jazz cafe near my boat in pest unsure what to do in the morning,
